Given the severe penalty attached to organized crime, Singapore records an average low crime rate compared to the rest of the world.
In 2022, Singapore ranked as the first safest country or area in the Global Law and Order Index. [3] It was also ranked third safest city in 2021 by the Economist Intelligence Unit, [4] [5] and 24th safest out of 136 countries in the Global Organised Crime Index by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime. The Organised Crime Act 2015 is a statute of the Parliament of Singapore that empowers the law enforcement authorities to detect, investigate, prevent and disrupt organised criminal activities, and to deprive persons involved in such activities of the benefits of their crime, as well as to make consequential and related amendments to certain other Acts.
