The 2005 US Open was the fourth and final Grand Slam of 2005. It was held between August 29, 2005, and September 11, 2005. Roger Federer was successful in defending his 2004 title, defeating Andre Agassi in the final. Svetlana Kuznetsova was unsuccessful in her title defense, losing in the first round against compatriot Ekaterina Bychkova.
Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur defeated Elena Dementieva and Flavia Pennetta in the final, 6–2, 5–7, 6–3 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2005 US Open. Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suárez were the reigning champions, but Suárez withdrew due to a back injury.
Arnaud Clément and Nicolas Mahut were the defending champions, but Mahut did not compete this year. Clement teamed up with Thierry Ascione and lost in the first round to José Acasuso and Sebastián Prieto.
