Robert J. Davies was the chief executive of Arriva PLC from 1998 to 2006. Davies attended King Edward VII School in Sheffield, going on to graduate with a degree in law from the University of Edinburgh. [1] He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and holds an honorary doctorate (LLD) from the University of Sunderland.

The constituency was first contested in 1918 and was used until 1983. It comprised the north-western part of the historic county of Monmouthshire, in south-east Wales. The seat was a county constituency, formed as a division of Monmouthshire. The areas, which comprised the seat, were Ebbw Vale, Rhymney and Tredegar.
The village is a 26-minute walk, and 1.3 miles (2.1 km) from Brynmawr where Brynmawr Bus Station offers services to Ebbw Vale Town railway station as well as buses to Cardiff, Newport, Tredegar, Pontypool, and Newbridge.
