Powerplay is the name for the fielding restrictions in limited overs cricket. It was first introduced in 1980-81 Australian season. Fielding Restrictions has been a rule in ODI cricket since 1992. It was renamed as Powerplay by ICC in 2005. [1] Unlike Test cricket, the fielders are spread out to save runs in limited overs cricket.
These five-over spells are called Powerplay 2 and Powerplay 3 and may be shortened if the length of the innings is restricted (Powerplay 1 is the first block of 10). Powerplays were first introduced in the One Day International between England and Australia on 7 July 2005.
The powerplay (a period of the game during which additional fielding restrictions are in effect) in each innings lasts three overs. In some T10 competitions, the third powerplay over is a "floating" powerplay which can be "activated" by the batting team during any of the overs after the first two of the innings. [8] [14]
The content quotas on children's programming were enforced in Australia until October 2020, when the Australian Government released an overhaul of local content requirements. [2] The children's sub-quotas were permanently removed, leaving commercial broadcasters with no obligation to produce and air Australian content for children. [ 2 ]
When a Powerplay is beginning, the umpire moves their hand in circular fashion above their head. In ODI, the entire innings is played through three different Powerplays with looser restrictions as the innings progresses. The first Powerplay lasts for the first ten overs and restricts the fielding team to three fielders outside the 30-yard circle.
