From January 1999 there are separate articles about months. For the first few years they seem to be forks of the sections concerned in the year articles. The contents of these sections can better be merged into the month article, after which the month articles can be transcluded in the year articles.

The year in both calendars consists of 365 days, with a leap day being added to February in the leap years. Because the number of days in the tropical year is not a whole number, a solar calendar must have a different number of days in different years. This may be handled, for example, by adding an extra day in leap years. The same applies to months in a lunar calendar and also the number of months in a year in a lunisolar calendar.
