Pat McCarthy was elected Washington state auditor on November 8, 2016. She assumed office on January 11, 2017. McCarthy began her career in public service as an elected school board director for the Tacoma School District, a position she held from 1987–1999. She then became the deputy auditor for Pierce County in 1999.
Island County was created out of Thurston County on December 22, 1852, by the legislature of Oregon Territory, [4] [5] and is the eighth-oldest county in Washington. It originally encompassed what are now Snohomish , Skagit , Whatcom , and San Juan Counties.
