Makita 16" battery chainsaw chain came off two of the three times I used the new saw. Narrow gauge .043 bar, 3/8" pitch, 56 links. Never had this problem with old B & D gas saw. Does the narrow kerf chain or the thinner guide bar contribute to chains jumping track?
Once you get involved with one brand (I have a bunch of Makita tools and about 10 batteries), you tend to stick with it. I'm moving more and more to this electric saw because I have largely completed the big work of cutting down weed trees on my 6 acre block, and what's left can be handled comfortably by the electric saw.
I picked up the new little 18v saw. Haven't tried it yet, but it has a good feel to it. Always looking for a smaller saw to carry on UTV for when I'm bumming around my shooting club. That's Makita's 36v saw to the left. Been pretty happy with that one.
what looks like a lot of metal shavings all over suggests the brake band is shot or clutch is badly worn. before honking on it I would try to flush all that material out of there. years ago i had a 116si that the band was shot on but the mechanism worked as far as locking back was concerned. have not experienced any problems with my 7900,7910, 6400,6410 or the older 50 cc unit which I can ...
The saw being repaired is my DCS4300i, but this repair applies to Dolmar109,110,111,115,ps540 and Makita DCS430,4300,520,5200,540 and possibly others I have forgotten about or not aware of. Here is the saw cleaned up, and a good view of the 1/2" hole in the crankcase that the oil line passes through.

I have noticed that a few people complain about their chainsaw leaking bar oil. I discovered that my newely acquired Makita DCS 520i was also leaking pretty bad and decided to investigate. Mine was leaking from the oil pick up pipe where it comes through the housing. I drained and flushed the oil tank and used compressed air to help dry it.
There is no Makita 45m6, but there is a Makita DCS520 (DCS=Dolmar Chain Saw). It was made by Dolmar, and was the same saw as the Dolmar PS-111, in Makita color. Last edited: Jun 15, 2013
finally got around to spending a day and a tank of fuel with my "new" 2015 makita 6100P chainsaw. my first impressions are very favorable , the saw is very well made and logically laid out-- starts in one or two pulls , it even started on two pulls after i flooded it. three non "pro" things...
These days I do most of my work with a Makita cordless chainsaw and a $99 cordless Kobalt pole saw! Unbelievable, when I own an Echo, a Jonsered, and an Echo gas pole saw. Reply
