The Generac model would probably be 10 kW 7171, and Kohler either the 10 or 12 kW 12RESV. The Kohler is slightly more $$ (not much) but can get a fair bit sooner in these crazy times. I'm more familiar with Generac but interested in Kohler.

20KW Kohler home stand-by generator. I installed a 20KW Kohler generator and a 200Amp Kohler RXT ATS this past week. When I simulate an outage by turning off the 200amp main breaker in the ATS to test the automatic feature of the generator the generator will not turn on. I have the 4 communication wires landed securely in A, B, PWR and Comm ...

Kohler generators and their software issues. Most of you know we have been selling Kohler generators for several years. About 6 months ago we had to make a business decision to stop selling Kohlers. Last thing I want is a customer complaining they paid for a back up power generator that never seems to work after paying us thousands of dollars ...

I have installed 8 standby Generators. I find Generac to be the easiest. I am presently trying to repair a Briggs Stratton model 19310 10 KW. I have it running after a short period of down time but I am having a problem. Once I energizer the primary 240 VAC the control in the lower left corner refuses to stop the generator.

This equates to $0.32/hr more to operate a Generac vs. Kohler on NG. or. $3/hr more to operate a Kohler on LP.

I have natural gas service at the house and my panel is already wired with a 30 amp inlet and an interlock kit. In addition, I have a gentent to run the portable generator outside in inclement weather. The total cost of the standby generator is $7.5k while the Honda costs $4k. Power outages in my area are pretty rare.

Always go for the 1800 RPM units; they have better guts, engine operates at ½ the speed, run quieter, last longer, etc. I'd definately put a 1800rpm next to my house before a 3600 and I have nothing to say in Generac ...
