The Children's Aquarium Dallas (Formally known as the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park) is an aquarium located in Fair Park, Dallas, Texas, USA. It opened in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial Exposition, [1] becoming the first Public Aquarium in the state of Texas. The aquarium received an $8 million renovation in 2010. [1]
The building, located on Lamar Street between Elm and Main, was the flagship location of the Sanger Brothers department store chain. [ 3 ] In 1965, four years after Sanger Brothers was merged with A. Harris & Co. into Sanger–Harris, the store was closed and replaced by a new flagship at Pacific and Akard.
During the late 1980s, Neiman Marcus considered leaving the building for a new downtown shopping center, but with revitalization of the Main Street District the store remained in its original location. Today, the flagship store serves as an important anchor in the Dallas retail scene as a reminder of the city's retailing history.
