Rowledge is a village in England on the Surrey–Hampshire border, centred south of the A31 and Farnham. Neighbouring villages include Wrecclesham, Spreakley and Frensham. To the south west of the village is the Alice Holt Forest; to the west is Birdworld. It is in the Waverley Ward of Farnham, Wrecclesham and Rowledge.
Its nearest town is Farnham, 5 miles (8.0 km) north north-east, geodesically (as the crow flies) and a similar distance by the direct road. It is the village immediately south of Birdworld, the largest UK avian zoological park and learning centre.
Farnham Park is a 131-hectare (320-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Farnham in Surrey.It is owned and managed by Waverley Borough Council. [1] [2]This medieval deer park has an avenue of trees which is over a kilometer long.
Farnham appears in Domesday Book of 1086 in the Hundred of Farnham [24] as Ferneham, one of the five great "minster" churches in Surrey. Its Domesday assets were: 40 hides ; 1 church, 6 mills worth £2 6s 0d, 43 ploughs , 35 acres (140,000 m 2 ) of meadow , woodland worth 175½ hogs .
Crooksbury Hill is a 17.2-hectare (43-acre) nature reserve within Puttenham and Crooksbury Commons east of Farnham in Surrey. It is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. [2] Soldier's Ring on the north side of the hill is a Scheduled Monument. It is a hillfort dating to the late Bronze Age or early Iron Age. [3]
