The Edward E. The Thumb Octagon Barn is an historic and unique barn located outside Gagetown, Michigan. It was built in 1924 [1] by local businessman James Purdy who hired local builders George and John Munro to construct the barn. Purdy was inspired to build the unique barn when he saw similar barns in Iowa. Purdy sold his farm in 1942.
The Barn at 4277 Irish Road in Davison, Michigan is a round barn built from concrete block with a round gambrel roof containing a gable dormer. It was built by farmer Erwin Gabel in the early twentieth century. [2] It has a number of doors and windows around the circumference. [3]
They built a (now much altered) house on the property. In 1881, James Somerville constructed a barn on his property. In 1887, he purchased additional acreage from his father, including the c. 1865 barn, and moved the barn to his farmstead, attaching it to the 1881 barn. Around 1900, he expanded the barn by adding an ell to one end. [2]
The Center includes 21 buildings on 24 acres. [3] Building types include offices, a power plant, workshops, and storage buildings. The main 1903 sanitarium building has a rectangular footprint with three wings radiating out from the main block. It is now referred to as Building 2, with the wings designated as Buildings 2A, 2B, and 2C. [3]
