Gordon Faber was born on April 2, 1931, [1] in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Ben Faber. [2] The family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, in 1934 where he grew up. [2] As a boy he was a member of the Boy Scouts, but since Hillsboro did not have a city pool he was unable to earn his swimming merit badge. [3]
