McLean County Unit District No. 5 (legally Community Unit School District No. 5, usually shortened to Unit 5) is a unit school district in McLean County, Illinois and a small portion of Woodford County, Illinois. [2] A public election on 8 May 1948 created the school district.
On March 21, 2000, the Unit 5 Referendum was passed. This referendum approved a spending budget of over $73 million, of which the State of Illinois would fund nearly $18 million for new construction and renovation of Unit 5 facilities. A new campus opened for NCHS on an entirely new site on Raab Road, northeast of Normal, in August 2003.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education Report Card, 70.9% of the student population in 2021 was Caucasian, 12.5% was black, 7.9% was non-white Hispanic, 2.6% was Asian, 0.4% was Indigenous, and 0.1% was Pacific Islander.
