Louisa County (/ l u ˈ aɪ z ə / loo-EYE-zə) is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census , the population was 10,837. [ 1 ] The county seat is Wapello .
The Louisa County Courthouse in Wapello, Iowa, United States, was built in 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. [1] The courthouse is the fourth building the county has used for court functions and county administration.
The south-eastern part of Iowa Territory became Iowa, the 29th state in the union, on December 28, 1846, [3] by which point 44 counties had been created. Counties continued to be created by the state government until 1857, when the last county, Humboldt County, was created. [4]
