Robert Louis Fosse (/ ˈ f ɒ s i /; June 23, 1927 – September 23, 1987) was an American choreographer, dancer, filmmaker, and stage director.Known for his work on stage and screen, he is arguably the most influential figure in the field of jazz dance in the twentieth century. [1]
Cabaret is a 1972 American musical period drama film directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse from a screenplay by Jay Presson Allen, based on the stage musical of the same name by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff, [4] which in turn was based on the 1951 play I Am a Camera by John Van Druten and the 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood.
Fosse's distinctive style of choreography included turned-in knees and "jazz hands". He is the only person ever to have won Oscar , Emmy , and Tony awards in the same year (1973). He was nominated for four Academy Awards , winning Best Director for Cabaret (1972) and won the Palme D'Or in 1980 for All That Jazz.
