Front page of Die Afrikaanse Patriot, a journal published by the GRA. The Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners (Afrikaans for "Society of True Afrikaners") was formed on 14 August 1875 in the town of Paarl by a group of Afrikaans speakers from the current Western Cape region.
The precursor was Die Beeld, an Afrikaans Sunday newspaper established in the 1960s. Die Beeld later merged with Dagbreek to become Rapport. [3]: 292 The Beeld brand was re-established in 1974 with the founding of the daily newspaper, Beeld (Fourie 2007). In June 2024, Moneyweb reported the newspaper would cease print in October. [4]

South African Associated Newspapers (SAAN) was an English language South African newspaper group formed in 1995. Its three important newspapers were the Rand Daily Mail, Sunday Times and Sunday Express. It was at one time the second largest newspaper group in the country.
