I also used pocket screws to attach the Rockler router table top to the completed frame, using the settings and screws for 3/4" wood. Hope this helps, Don. Hi Talley, When joining a 2x4 to 3/4"-thick material, you will need to use the 1/2" marking as your Kreg Jig Setting and 1-1/4" pocket-hole screws.
If you are using the correct drill depth of the pocket hole and the correct screw length the screw will pull the joint tight. Now you will hear and or have read about the screws going through the material exiting the opposite side. That means one of or a combination of the thickness of the material, the screw length, and then overdriving of the ...

From looking at all the Kreg screw sizes at Amazon, It looks like #7 is for fine screws and for hi-lo screws, while #8 is coarse screws. The shank of a screw means the length of the screw from under the head to the tip. #7 screws have a slightly smaller shank that of #8 screws.
Just for reference I laid the bit in the jig and lo and behold, it's at the 3/4" setting. Then I drilled the pocket hole and ran a 1-1/4" screw into the hole. Even going in at a 30 degree angle, there seems to be enough thread to create a strong joint. Here's the assembled piece.
When I used the 1-1/4" coarse Kreg-brand screw to connect the joint, the screw poked through the edge of the secondary piece. It happened several times. I then put the depth collar about an 1/8" closer to the drill and had the same effect. The screws are poking through the secondary piece.

I used pocket holes to attached the edging to the plywood. The problem I have is the srew heads are above the surface of the board once screwed in.
a dowel or loose tenon, located between the two screws would be more suitable over a biscuit. NOTE: When installing a dowel, the drilled holes need to be aligned nearly perfect---. once installed, there is no adjustment for alignment. Hence, the great advantage of using Kregs Pocket hole joinery method. Reply.
Attached is a Screw Chart for reference. If you are drilling in to 5/8" melamine, use 1" pocket-hole screws. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact Technical Support directly at 800-447-8638 or technicalsupport@kregtool.com for assistance. They will be more than happy to help!
