Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park is a park located in northwestern Christian County, Kentucky, just south of Dawson Springs, Kentucky.The park encompasses 863 acres (349 ha) and takes its name from a colloquial form of the word pennyroyal, a small flowering plant native to the area.
The park is approximately 2,300 acres (9 km 2), of which around 1,200 acres (5 km 2) is dedicated by the Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves as a nature preserve. In 1981, this land was dedicated into the nature preserves system to protect the ecological communities and rare species habitat.
Although the Kentucky Horse Park is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, it is administered separately from the Department of Parks and is not a state park. Breaks Interstate Park is also separate, administered under an interstate compact with the state of Virginia , in partnership with the parks departments of both states.
