Interestingly older USGS quad maps show that the Chicken Ranch house was linked to Hwy 71 via a north-south dirt road starting near the old/new US 71 interchange (leading north-northeast from 29.9088,-96.8368), so this would have been just past the "bend" of old US 71 when driving east from La Grange.
