I have Vizio 55” and screen goes black but still get sound. I have found that this is being caused by a bad connection between 2 of the boards in back. I have taken back off and carefully squeeze this connector point attaching boards together, and works fine for a few months.
I have a Vizio P75-F1 with the infamous black screen of death. The TV powers up, shows the Vizio logo like normal. Then the picture goes black, but the backlight remains on. When doing a factory reset, (Hold Vol Down + Input for 10 sec, release Vol Down and continue to hold Input). The TV will reboot multiple times, but nothing changes.
If it remains dark, unplug it and push the power button for about one minute, then plug it back in. See if that resets your TV. Our couple year old Vizio 42-Inch LCD TV started randomly going to a black screen. When the screen goes black, you can still hear sound through the speakers. If you hit the menu or A/V buttons, the picture comes back for couple minutes, and then the screen goes black again.

The issue should be either the power board or the backlight strips themselves ( another common Vizio Achilles heel). I would measure the voltage on the power board to the backlight LED’s (set your voltmeter on something like a 300 V scale and see what you get). If the voltage fails it’s most likely your power board.

My Vizio E550i-b2 has the same problem, black screen with sound. I was planning to order a complete TV repair parts kit from ShopJimmy.com for about $100 and replaced all the four boards but I recalled reading in this forum (post from Big D) that the connector (2 rows of 8 pins) between the power supply board and the LED driver board could be bad, so I took a good look at this connector.
