Moose milk is Ballistol and water. PAM is Murphys oil soap, rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. If you don't make it up fresh, just substitute water for peroxide. It's the soap and water that do most of the work, the alcohol helps get any grease film off that the soap won't touch and help it dry faster.
Posted January 11, 2011. Moose milk is any miscible oil and water. Cutting oil will work as will offset press wash and many other types. The ration of oil to water is strictly up to you. My mix is 1 part Ballistol to 7 parts of water. I tried the Murphy's oil mix and was not impressed. Went back to Ballistol.

2,407. Hydrogen Peroxide causes rust as it is basically a variation of water with extra Oxygen. The original Moose milk was water soluable machinists oil and water. Almost every shooter has a recipe for BP solvent and swears by it. Water is about as effective as any.
Stonelick Regulators. Posted January 31, 2019. "Moose Milk" is my go-to real Black Powder cleaner. 25% Ballistol 75% water. After shooting my cap & ball pistols, I remove the grips and trigger guard and soak them in hot water and Dawn. A good scrub down, wipe dry then a final wipe with Moose Milk.

+++ Had the same problems with Moose Milk and or Murphy. Hot soapy water stills seems like the best way to go and use the residual heat to help dry out the water. Get the barrel hot enough so it is uncomfortable to the touch to help drive out the moisture. I do keep it in the gun cart to help rinse crud out during a shoot.
Moose Milk. I shoot B.P.C.R.'s and swab the barrel between shots. I have been using what people call "Moose Milk" and was told the best mix was 20 : 1 Ballistol and water. I have been hearing all kinds of mixes with Ballistol, machine oil, Murphy's soap. Dawn etc., I have tried straight water but the patch's are sometimes tough going down barrel.

I might wipe the cylinder face on my revolvers once during a match and spray a little moose milk on the base pin bushing. I have shot a 12 stage state match with nothing but a spray and wipe of Ballistol after day one, no disassembly just a spray down the bores and wipe down the outside. BPCR is a whole different animal.
