Mao Asada (浅田 真央, Asada Mao, born 25 September 1990) is a Japanese former competitive figure skater.She is the 2010 Olympic silver medalist, a three-time World champion (2008, 2010, 2014), a three-time Four Continents champion (2008, 2010, 2013), and a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (2005–06, 2008–09, 2012–13, 2013–14).
The ladies' short program was held on February 23, 2010. Yuna Kim (South Korea) finished first with a new world best score. [6] Mao Asada (Japan) finished second. [7] [8] Joannie Rochette (Canada) skated in the competition despite the tragedy of her mother's death two days earlier and finished third.
Mao Asada hold the record for the most total medals won (with six). Five skaters share the record for the most silver medals won (with two each): Canadian Joannie Rochette ; and Shizuka Arakawa , Mao Asada, Akiko Suzuki and Satoko Miyahara , who all completed for Japan.
2008 and 2010 World champion, Mao Asada of Japan, broke the previous world record set by Kim Yuna in the short program, scoring 78.66, 1.42 points ahead of the 2012 World champion, Carolina Kostner of Italy, and 4.12 ahead of the 2014 European champion, Yulia Lipnitskaya. Asada also placed first in the free skating by a margin of five points.
