Sharafuddin was born on 24 December 1945, at the Istana Jema'ah in Klang, as the first son of the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Selangor, Tengku Abdul Aziz Shah and his first wife, Raja Saidatul Ihsan binti Tengku Badar Shah (1923–2011).
Her husband, Sharafuddin built a pavilion at their private residence specifically for feeding stray cats. [ 1 ] On 24 March 2017, she launched the "Stray Free Selangor (SFS) – The Humane and Compassionate Way" campaign through the Selangor Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA), of which she is a royal patron.

The sultan and his family belong to the House of Royal Buginese Luwu Opu Daeng Chelak Family. The ruling house had founded the monarchy in 1745 and continues to be in power to this day. [1]
