This is a list of colleges and universities in the U.S. state of Oregon. Seven public universities, overseen by the Oregon Office of University Coordination, are operated by boards appointed by the governor, [1] and seventeen community colleges are operated by locally elected boards. [2] There are also numerous private degree-granting institutions.
Oregon State University (OSU) is a public land-grant research university in Corvallis, Oregon, United States. OSU offers more than 200 undergraduate-degree programs along with a variety of graduate and doctoral degrees through all 11 colleges. It has the seventh-largest engineering college in the nation (2023). [11]
Oregon State University first offered college-level coursework in liberal arts as early as 1865. [12] [13] Since then, the university has provided students with a wide range of liberal arts courses and degrees. The university's campus newspaper was first established in 1896 as the "Beaver". In 1919, the name was changed to the "College Barometer".
Oregon State Ecampus partners with more than 1,200 OSU faculty members annually [8] to develop and deliver programs and courses online. All Ecampus classes are developed by the same Oregon State faculty who teach on campus. Oregon State offers more than 1,800 courses online.
He became the institution's longest-serving president to date, retiring in 1969 from what had been renamed Southern Oregon College – to reflect more diverse course offerings – in 1956. The institution was renamed Southern Oregon State College in 1975 and became Southern Oregon University in 1997. [14]

The Oregon University System (OUS) was administered by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education (the "Board") and the Chancellor of the OUS, who was appointed by the Board. [1] It was disbanded in June 2015. [2] OUS was responsible for governing the state's seven public universities.
