"Samba de uma Nota Só", known in English as "One Note Samba", is a bossa nova and jazz standard song composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim with Portuguese lyrics by Newton Mendonça. The English lyrics were written by Jon Hendricks. It was first recorded by João Gilberto in 1960 for his album O Amor, o Sorriso e a Flor. [citation needed]
In October 1962, "Desafinado" (backed with "One Note Samba") was released on Verve Records. [1] Also that month, Billboard Music Week magazine reported in its October 20 issue that her single "Desafinado" was doing very well. [2] Then the single moved to another label. It was moved from the Verve label to MGM.
Jobim is widely regarded as one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. Many of his songs are jazz standards . American jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra prominently featured Jobim's songs on their albums Ella Abraça Jobim (1981) and Francis Albert Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim (1967), respectively.
