Kanha Tiger Reserve encompasses an area of 940 km 2 (360 sq mi) in the two districts Mandla and Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. It is divided into two protected areas, Hallon and Banjar, of 250 and 300 km 2 (97 and 116 sq mi), respectively. The project of reintroduction of gaurs dealt with shifting some gaurs from Kanha National Park to Bandhavgarh. 50 animals were transferred in 2012.
