Machairodontinae is an extinct subfamily of carnivoran mammals of the family Felidae (true cats). They were found in every continent except for Australia and Antarctica. The earliest species are known from the Middle Miocene, while the latest species belonging to Smilodon and Homotherium became extinct as part of the end-Pleistocene extinction event around 12-10,000 years ago.
