New Pine Creek (formerly, Pine Creek) is a census-designated place [3] in Modoc County, California. [2] It is located on the Oregon border 7 miles (11 km) north-northeast of Willow Ranch, [4] at an elevation of 4842 feet (1476 m). [2] Its population is 87 as of the 2020 census, down from 98 from the 2010 census.
On July 15, 1956, the Fandango Pass section of the Applegate-Lassen Emigrant Trail became California Historical Landmark No. 546. The plaque marker is located 10.8 mi (17.4 km) east of Highway 395 on Fandango Pass Road (County Road 9). [1] A second marker is located off the road, placed by Trails West. [8]
By the mid-1920s, the main road southeast from Klamath Falls, still unimproved in California, headed southeast to State Highway Route 28 (now SR 299) at Canby rather than south to Bieber. There travelers could head east on Route 28 to Alturas and south on the present US 395 (not a state highway north of Susanville until 1933) towards Reno.
