Defiance is a city in and the county seat of Defiance County, Ohio, United States. The population was 17,066 at the 2020 census . It is located at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers about 55 miles (89 km) southwest of Toledo and 47 miles (76 km) northeast of Fort Wayne, Indiana , in Ohio's northwestern corner.

Fort Defiance was an American military fortification built in 1794 during the Northwest Indian War in what was then the Northwest Territory. Following the Treaty of Greenville, the fort was abandoned in 1796. The site of the fort, adjacent to where the Auglaize River flows into the Maumee River, now lies within the city of Defiance, Ohio.
