Arthur Calvin Newby (December 29, 1865 – September 11, 1933) was an American businessman and pioneer of the bicycle and automotive industries in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was best known as one of the founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway .
Speedway is located in western Marion County. It is 5 miles (8 km) west-northwest of downtown Indianapolis.. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Speedway has a total area of 4.79 square miles (12.41 km 2), of which 0.004 square miles (0.01 km 2), or 0.08%, are water. [1]
It is located six miles (9.7 km) west of Downtown Indianapolis. Constructed in 1909, it is the second purpose-built, banked oval racing circuit after Brooklands and the first to be called a 'speedway'. It is the third-oldest permanent automobile race track in the world, behind Brooklands and the Milwaukee Mile.
