The US National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) was established as a way to bring cheerleaders together to learn new skills.Since 1951, [1] the NCA has held summer camps, and is credited with the invention of the herkie jump, the pom-pom, the spirit stick [2] and being the first uniform manufacturer.

The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) is the organization that rules and regulates school athletics in the state of South Carolina. Based out of Columbia , the SCHSL serves over 330,000 students at 220 high schools and 200 junior high schools.
Cumming Street Senior High School opened in 1926. In 1938, a new building was built and it was christened George Washington Carver High School. In 1964, the school encouraged its graduates to integrate Wofford College in Spartanburg, and a student, Albert Gray, succeeded in becoming the first black student at Wofford. [1]
