George D. Roper became the sole owner of the Van Wie Gas Stove company after the company's debts were paid off on September 1, 1894. 10 days later, a fire destroyed the facility. The factory was rebuilt and renamed as the Eclipse Gas Stove Company, and later expanded to include the Trahern Pump Company, found in 1857 and acquired in 1906.

Elmer Ernest Roper (June 4, 1893 – November 12, 1994) was a Canadian businessman, trade unionist and politician. He was an Alberta Co-operative Commonwealth Federation member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta , 1942-1955, and mayor of Edmonton 1959-1963.
The county was created by the Michigan Legislature in 1840 as Cheonoquet County, [2] [5] after a well-known Chippewa (also known as Ojibwa) Chief, whose name meant Big Cloud. [6] Cheonoquet took part in Indian treaties in 1807, 1815, 1825 and 1837.
