In 1767, at the age of 17, Firmin found himself at the Bayou Tortue in Louisiana, while the rest of his family returned to Canada. [2] [3] By 1769, Firmin had moved into a house in present day St. James Parish, and had been married to his wife Marguerite Braud. He died October 1, 1808, in Breaux Bridge. [4]

The Smithfield Plantation is a former sugar plantation with a historic mansion in Port Allen, Louisiana, U.S. [2] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since April 7, 1995. [3]
Not much is known about the Boudreaux family, but the 1810 census lists 13 people living at the residence, nine males and four females. The Boudreaux family home, built in 1816, is the oldest surviving structure on property. The property that came to be known as Laurel Valley Plantation was sold to Joseph W. Tucker in 1832.
