Boys Over Flowers [1] (花より男子, Hana Yori Dango) is a 2005 Japanese television drama series starring Mao Inoue, Jun Matsumoto of Arashi, Shun Oguri, Shota Matsuda, and Tsuyoshi Abe. It is based on the manga series, Boys Over Flowers ( 花より男子 , Hana yori Dango ) , written and illustrated by Yoko Kamio .
The film was released direct-to-DVD in North America on August 25, 2009, by Discotek Media, making it the first and, as of March 2022, only Japanese live-action media based on Boys Over Flowers with a Western English-subtitled release. [3]
English translations of all 37 volumes were released between 2003 and 2009 by Viz Media. [13] It has also been published by Glénat in France, [14] and by Planeta DeAgostini in Spain. [15] Kamio began a sequel, Boys Over Flowers Season 2, in Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ online magazine on February 15, 2015. [16]
