The first congregation to carry the name Pentecostal Holiness Church was formed in Goldsboro, North Carolina in 1898. This church was founded as a result of the evangelistic ministry of Abner Blackmon Crumpler, a Methodist evangelist. [14] A year earlier, Crumpler had founded the inter-denominational North Carolina Holiness Association. [15]
