Fort Wayne Assembly is an automobile factory in Roanoke, Indiana. Opened in 1986 by General Motors, the 4,600,000 sq ft (430,000 m 2) plant produces vehicles on the company's GMT T1XX vehicle platform. Facilities include 2 body shops, a paint shop, general assembly, and sequence center.
CVI (Custom Vehicles Incorporated; also associated with Arlington-based Good Times, Inc.) was a company located beside the Fort Wayne Scout Assembly Plant that produced special models for IH dealers in 1979 and 1980. The special models were dressed-up Scouts with unique exterior decals and trim, center console coolers, and hood scoops.
Production figures for 1953 were 123,026 (77,817 trucks built at Springfield, 38,613 at Fort Wayne, 626 at Emeryville and 5,970 at Bridgeport), plus another 13,912 trucks built at Chatham, Canada, for a grand total of 136,938.
In 1978 NAVL headquarters in Fort Wayne, Indiana moved to the new building location, spread across 121 acres (0.49 km 2). [1] In 1979 NAVL moved to the top of the list among the six largest van lines. [1] By April 1984, North American Van Lines Inc. was put up for sale by PepsiCo. [4]
