The Jackson, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of four counties - Madison, Chester, Gibson, Crockett - in western Tennessee, anchored by the city of Jackson. As of the 2020 census, the MSA had a population of 180,509. [1]
Williamsburg, a town developed around the fort, served as the Jackson County seat from 1807 to 1819. [5] The county's early records were all lost in a disastrous courthouse fire on August 14, 1872. [6] The 1970 Movie "I Walk The Line" starring Gregory Peck was filmed in Gainesboro and Jackson County.
