All residents sentenced to less than five years are directly admitted to this facility.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the Bucksport CDP has a total area of 14.6 square miles (37.7 km 2 ), of which 11.4 square miles (29.6 km 2 ) are land and 3.1 square miles (8.1 km 2 ), or 21.54%, are water.
