Arabian Nights (Portuguese: As Mil e uma Noites) is a 2015 three-part drama film, co-written and directed by Miguel Gomes, based on the One Thousand and One Nights. It comprises Volume 1: The Restless One , Volume 2: The Desolate One and Volume 3: The Enchanted One ; each volume is around two hours long.
Miguel Gomes (born 1972) is a Portuguese film director, screenwriter and editor. [1] He studied cinema at Lisbon Theatre and Film School.His films include The Face You Deserve (2004), Our Beloved Month of August (2008) and Tabu (2012), Arabian Nights (2015) and Grand Tour (2024).
The 1949 animated film The Singing Princess, another movie produced in Italy, is inspired by The Arabian Nights. The animated feature film, One Thousand and One Arabian Nights (1969), produced in Japan and directed by Osamu Tezuka and Eichii Yamamoto, featured psychedelic imagery and sounds, and erotic material intended for adults.

One of Hollywood's first feature films to be based on The Nights was in 1942, with the movie called Arabian Nights. It starred Maria Montez as Scheherazade, Sabu Dastagir as Ali Ben Ali and Jon Hall as Harun al-Rashid. The storyline bears virtually no resemblance to the traditional version of the book.
