Surry County is home to three local newspapers, The Mount Airy News of Mount Airy, The Pilot in Pilot Mountain and The Tribune of Elkin. Forest City is also home to the Forest City Owls baseball club which is a member of the Coastal Plain League, a collegiate summer league.
