Heliopolis Sporting Club (Arabic: نادى هليوبوليس الرياضى,; pronounced as nādī Heliopolis al-reyādī) is an Egyptian sports club based in Heliopolis, Cairo. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Founded in 1910, it is one of the country's largest sports clubs.
The club was founded in May 1962 as sports social club and was called the Heliopolis Sporting Club (El Shams), based in the northern section of Cairo Governorate. El Shams football team participated only once in the Egyptian Premier League and that was in 1997–98.
Heliopolis club is one of the most luxurious sporting clubs in Egypt. It was established along with Heliopolis in 1905. From 1911 until 1915, Heliopolis had Luna Park, Africa's first amusement park (the grounds were converted into an Australian field hospital just after the onset of World War I).
