Johnson was born on October 9, 1963. He attended The Citadel on a wrestling scholarship and won the NCAA's Southern Conference title as a freshman in 1982. A knee injury during his sophomore year ended Johnson’s wrestling career. He was inducted into the Georgia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2021. [1]
