This navbox template works in conjunction with two other templates: {{Navbox with columns}} and {{Navbox with collapsible groups}}. All three of these templates share common parameters for consistency and ease of use (such parameters are marked with an asterisk (*) in the parameter descriptions list hereinbefore).
To nest a plain navbox (that is, a navbox that would be specified with the {} template) inside a column, set the col n parameter to child or subgroup. Elements of the child navbox can be specified by prepending col n _ to the parameter names (e.g. col1_list1). Child navboxes can be nested by adding an additional prefix (e.g. col1_1_list1).
This template is used on approximately 60,000 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage . Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.
Currently, the only required parameters for this template are name (the template's name that follows "Template:") and title. In addition to the parameters listed below, the template also handles the titlestyle , above , abovestyle , below and belowstyle parameters common to {{ Navbox }} es.
However, specific navbox guidelines for color of text and background other than the defaults are available. Navigation templates are particularly useful for a small, well-defined group of articles; templates with a large number of links are not forbidden, but can appear overly busy and be hard to read and use.

Splitting them into multiple, smaller templates on each sub-topic, and especially if individual groups within the template are collapsible child navboxes that have Wikipedia articles about their subjects and the smaller navigation templates would still satisfy most or all of the guidelines for good navboxes.
