Bloomfield Township is a charter township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A northern suburb of Detroit, Bloomfield Township is located roughly 20 miles (32 km) northwest of downtown Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the township had a population of 44,253. [3] Established in 1827, it is the oldest township of Oakland County.
George Noyes made the first land purchase in the area as early as 1824. The county's first school, the McCracken School, was built here in 1825. The settlement was formally named Pitt in 1831 and was named in honor of former English prime minister William Pitt. A post office named Pitt opened on January 21, 1835 but closed on September 14, 1836.
