Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is a teaching hospital in Nedlands, Western Australia.. Opened in 1958 [1] [2] as the Perth Chest Hospital and later named in honour of Sir Charles Gairdner, governor of Western Australia from 1951 to 1963, it is part of the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre (QEII MC).
It contains Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the Perth Children's Hospital, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and various smaller facilities. The current QEII site was bought by the state government in 1910, and in 1922 a 999-year lease (that is, until the year 2921) was granted to the University of Western Australia (UWA).

This Grecian style building was designed by William Mackenzie, with the original cost of the land and buildings being £6812-15-3 ½d. The building of the hospital was funded by public subscription and it opened on 1 October 1838.
The hospital was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1901. The $15,000 Perth Amboy City Hospital was opened in 1902 with 12 beds and six doctors. [7] In 1903, the School of Nursing opened. The name was changed to Perth Amboy General Hospital in 1929, and more recently to Raritan Bay Medical Center. [8]
