Maidstone-on-the-Potomac is a historic house and farm near Falling Waters, West Virginia. Located on the Potomac River immediately opposite Williamsport, Maryland , the property consists of a 218-acre (88 ha) tract with a main house dating from c. 1741.
Fallingwater is situated in Stewart Township in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, United States, [4] [5] about 72 miles (116 km) southeast of Pittsburgh. [6] [7] The house is located near Pennsylvania Route 381 (PA 381), [8] [9] between the communities of Ohiopyle and Mill Run in Fayette County.
The sinkholes at Falling Waters State Park were used as a hideout by Indian warriors fighting against Andrew Jackson during the Seminole Wars. [4] The park is the site of a Civil War era gristmill. [5] The gristmill was powered by the waterfall in Falling Waters Sink. Later, in 1891, a distillery was constructed on the site. [5]
The MPS, named "Mediterranean Revival Style Buildings of Davis Islands", included a total of twenty-three historic structures, which were among the first ever built on the newly accessible Davis Islands during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. Falling Waters is a census-designated place (CDP) on the Potomac River in Berkeley County, West Virginia, United States. It is located along Williamsport Pike ( US 11 ) north of Martinsburg . An 1887 Scientific American article claimed that the first U.S. railroad was built in Falling Waters in 1814.
