Scottish Golf is the governing body for amateur golf in Scotland. It was formed in 2015 as a merger between the Scottish Golf Union , the governing body for men, and the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association, the equivalent body for women.
The first record of North American golf was a consignment of 96 golf clubs and 432 golf balls which was shipped from Leith to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1743; [26] and on 29 September 1786 Scottish merchants established the South Carolina Golf Club in Charleston, the first golf club in the United States.

The game of golf is thought to date back much before this, and golf was understood to have been played on the Bruntsfield Links since at least the 17th century. The first extant minute of the society is dated from 8 April 1773, but it is first recorded as being established in 1735 in an 1834 edition of the Edinburgh Almanac.

The Scottish PGA Championship is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1907. For many years the event was called the Scottish Professional Championship . It is the flagship event on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule.
The Northern Open is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1931. For some years it was one of only two 72-hole tournaments on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule, the other being the Scottish PGA Championship, but since 2019 the event has been played over 36 holes.
