The Museo Regional de Antropología e Historia (Regional Museum of Anthropology and History) is the largest museum in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and one of the most important of its kind in Mexico. [1] The director is Miguel Ángel Riva Palacio. [2] The building was constructed in modern style between 1979 and 1982, and the museum inaugurated in 1984.
The zoo was founded in 1942 by Elíseo Palacios for the study and conservation of the fauna. It was originally located in a small area west of the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, with just a dozen species and a small museum of natural history. In 1949 the zoo changed its location, moving to the east of the city, in the area known as Park Madero.

After local team Chiapas F.C. dissolved in July 2017, Jiquipilas Valle Verde F.C. moved from Jiquipilas to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and changed its name to Tuxtla F.C. It played in Serie A, the third tier of the Liga Premier de México in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
