According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.88 square miles (92.93 km 2), of which 0.01 square miles (0.03 km 2), or 0.02%, are water. [1] The township is drained by east-flowing tributaries of the Muskegon River, most notably Butterfield Creek, which crosses the southern portion of the township.
It is the county seat of Missaukee County, and is the largest city within the county. The city is located in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. As of the 2020 census, the population of Lake City was 829. [2] Lake City has been nicknamed "Michigan's Christmas Tree Capital", due to the high number of farms near the city. [6] [7] [8]
