The Royal Ballet School is a British school of classical ballet training [1] [2] founded in 1926 by the Anglo-Irish ballerina and choreographer Ninette de Valois.The school's aim is to train and educate outstanding classical ballet dancers, especially for the Royal Ballet (based at the Royal Opera House in London) and the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
The School was founded in 1988 by then director Peter Schaufuss of English National Ballet as a feeder school for the company. It began with just 12 students, sharing premises with the company. [ 3 ] The School grew rapidly, and in 1995 Diana, Princess of Wales opened its new premises in Chelsea, enabling it to train many more dancers.
The school was established in 1982 by Ann Stannard and Christopher Gable. It established a touring company, Ballet Central, in 1984. From 2004, Central started to offer degree courses accredited by the University of Kent. [1] In 2018, more than £25,000 worth of costumes were stolen from a van belonging to the Central School of Ballet.
